It's The Law!

  • Approved Darlington County trash bags must be used for all household waste
  • All loads of trash or yard waste must be secured and covered by a tarp during transit to prevent litter. For more information, contact the Litter Control Coordinator at(843) 398-4011.
  • To report illegal dumping, call (843) 398-4011.

Used Motor Oil Collection

Used motor oil, oil filters and empty motor oil bottles are frequently disposed improperly. One gallon of used motor oil poured on the ground or in a sewer system can contaminate as much as 1 million gallons of water.. often the very water we drink.

To make proper disposal easy and convenient, containers for used motor oil, oil filters and oil bottles can be found throughout Darlington County.

USED MOTOR OIL MUST BE RECYCLED IN SOUTH CAROLINA

Use Special Yellow Bags For Household Garbage...

First, recycle.
Then use yellow Darlington County bags for garbage. The "Trash Two-Step" means you pay only for the garbage you throw away. Darlington County developed this pay-per-bag system to meet state and federal goals to reduce solid waste and increase recycling.

The price of Darlington County trash bags covers a portion of the disposal costs, including handling, transportation and disposal of the trash at a landfill that meets the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Subtitle D regulations.

DARLINGTON COUNTY TRASH BAGS

  • 90-gallon bags (fit roll-carts) Five for $6.65 ($1.33 each)
  • 35-gallon bags Five for $2.50 (50 cents each)
  • 13-gallon bags (for small trash cans) Five for $1.75 (35 cents each)

Bags are available at most grocery and convenience stores.

Darlington County trash bags are required for all non-recyclable household trash. Take the yellow bags to one of the 12 recycling stations located throughout the county (see back of brochure). Also use yellow bags in roll-carts provided by municipalities and private haulers.

Yellow bags are not needed for everything you throw away. Big items, like old furniture, scrap building materials and yard debris, are taken free of charge. Place these items in the yard waste box at the Recycling Station. Take large loads to the landfill.
