Darlington County residents are reminded to obtain permits for repairs to damaged structures within the floodplain.  Due to the recent flooding event, many structures within the community may have experienced structural damage.  Repairs and / or reconstruction activities to structures that are located in the floodplain and were damaged due to this event will require a floodplain development permit from Darlington County Planning as required by the Darlington County Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance.  Failure to obtain the necessary permits can result in violations and fines.  For more information on the permitting process or if you are unsure if you are in the floodplain, contact Doug Reimold, CFM or Julie Ritz, CFM at 843.398.4610 or Email Planning.

This inspection is a requirement of the National Flood Insurance Program, however, you may encounter other inspection teams gathering different information for various programs (Individual Assistance, Public Assistance, etc.)  If so, please bear with us as many different types of teams will be performing reviews in order to gauge the type and amount of relief or assistance that is needed.  Make sure that visiting teams have proper credentials.
